App Addict: Health


For the first time in the App Addict series, I wanted to talk about one of the built in Apple apps I've been using a lot recently, Health.



As I'm sure most of you know by now, we adopted our dog Bruno, 4 weeks ago. Since then, I've been a lot more active, taking him on 3 walks every day and for those first 4 weeks, he was on his lead, which meant I was walking with him, at a faster than usual walking pace, for 1 hour in the morning, 1 hour in the afternoon and 20/30mins in the evening. So for around 2 and a half hours walking every day, I noticed that I was actually walking quite far and so I started tracking my walks so I could see how many miles I walked a day and how many steps I've taken a day.

When you open the app, you can see your dashboard, which shows your recently activity.


As you can see, you can choose between the different views, day, week, month and year. The default graphs that are displayed in the dashboard are steps and walking + running distance. If you click on Health Data, you can see all the different choices of things to monitor on your dashboard. My favourite thing about the Health app is that it tracks your steps and walking + running distance automatically. It just uses your iPhone's GPS to constantly track your movement throughout the day. However, you can also sync your data with other apps that track other things, by clicking on the Sources button at the bottom.


Sources shows any other health and fitness apps you may have on your phone that track various things. I have the MapMyWalk app for tracking my dog walks and I recently downloaded the Sleep Better app which monitors my sleep, so now because I've allowed those apps to access my Health app, I can display my progress on my dashboard.


So, as you can see, you can track your progress in so many different areas so it's great for whether your trying to stay in shape, or just keep a record of your daily activity. Also, if you're not sure as to which apps work alongside the Health app, Apple have a collection of apps on the App Store of all the compatible apps!
