Film Review: Horns

Back in October of last year, the film Horns was released as a Halloween film. I wanted to go and see it but left it too late and it stopped showing in the cinema. I finally watched it online yesterday and thought I would share what I thought.

Horns is a film about a guy named Iggy and his girlfriend, who gets murdered. One morning Iggy wakes up to find horns growing from his head and then quickly realises the horns make everyone tell him the truth about everything. Iggy decides to use this power to try and find out who killed his girlfriend.

From what I'd seen from the trailer, I wasn't expecting this film to be amazing. I just thought it might be entertaining enough to watch once if you don't take it too seriously. However, it was not what I expected it to be at all. I thought it was so bad! I thought it was going to be just a fun Halloween film but everything about it was just so bad! Obviously, the main reason why I wanted to watch it was because I like Daniel Radcliffe, but he's got an American accent in this film and it's so distracting, he sounds like he's got a cold when he speaks, it's so weird! It's not just Daniel Radcliffe though, all of the acting in general is just not great. They could of made the exact same film with an American actor but it seems obvious they used Daniel Radcliffe to sell tickets. The film is supposed to be a horror/fantasy but the story was so weak, and didn't seem to make sense most of the time. I still don't even understand why he grew horns in the first place. After he first discovers the horns, and realises what they can do, I was thinking this would be where the film starts to get really good but it was just bad all the way through. I found out after I watched the film, that it's actually an adaptation of a book. The book itself has been successful enough in it's own right so I'm not sure what happened with this film. It just wasn't believable and there were too many plot holes! It's such a shame because I really liked the idea of the film but it was as if they took the story and just didn't know what to do with it!

Luckily for Daniel Radcliffe, this was just a small film so it's not going to be career-ender, I just think it could of been better!

If you haven't seen it, here's the trailer:
